Publication Ethics

The Journal of Genetics and Applied Biotechnology (JGAB) is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics and integrity. The journal adheres to the principles and guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Responsibilities of Authors

Authors submitting manuscripts to JGAB must ensure that:

  • The work is original and has not been published elsewhere
  • The manuscript is not under consideration by another journal
  • All authors have made significant contributions and approved the final version
  • All sources are properly cited
  • Data are accurate and not fabricated, falsified, or manipulated
  • Any conflicts of interest are clearly disclosed

Authors must also ensure that:

  • Research involving humans or animals complies with ethical standards and has received appropriate approval
  • Informed consent has been obtained where applicable

Responsibilities of Reviewers

Reviewers are expected to:

  • Provide objective, constructive, and timely evaluations
  • Maintain confidentiality of submitted manuscripts
  • Declare any conflicts of interest
  • Identify relevant published work not cited by the authors

Reviewers must not use unpublished data for personal advantage.

Responsibilities of Editors

Editors are responsible for:

  • Ensuring a fair, unbiased, and confidential review process
  • Making decisions based on scientific merit, originality, and relevance
  • Avoiding conflicts of interest
  • Taking appropriate action in cases of suspected misconduct

Plagiarism Policy

JGAB has a strict anti-plagiarism policy. All submissions are screened using plagiarism detection software such as Turnitin or iThenticate.

Manuscripts with a similarity index exceeding 19% (excluding references) or containing evidence of plagiarism will be rejected.

Publication Misconduct

In cases of suspected misconduct (including plagiarism, data fabrication, falsification, or duplicate publication), the journal will follow COPE guidelines.

Actions may include:

  • Rejection of the manuscript
  • Notification to authors’ institutions
  • Retraction of published articles

Corrections and Retractions

If significant errors or ethical issues are identified after publication, the journal will publish:

  • Corrections
  • Retractions
  • Expressions of concern

as appropriate, following COPE recommendations.

Data and Transparency

Authors are encouraged to provide access to underlying data where possible. Any restrictions must be clearly stated.
